Sublimation and deposition

This test enables to understand how the state of matter can change (solid – gas). When heated, iodine directly passes from the solid state to the gas state (sublimation). On the contrary, when cooled, students can observe the inverse phase transition (deposition) indicated by the disappearance of vapours and by the formation of small crystals on the phial walls.
