Salt hydrolysis

CB-IN-72/EV

This kit enables to study the salt hydrolysis; the salt hydrolysis consists of a full or partial recombination of ions of a salt into molecules: that occurs when this salt comes out from a base and an acid of different strength, or from a base and an acid being both weak. The test develops in four phases; in all the four phases a spatula full of salt is plunged into distilled water and salt is dissolved; then a universal indicator paper is immersed and pH is measured.

Training program

  • First phase: salt coming out from strong acid and weak base: solution of NH4Cl
  • Second phase: salt coming out from weak acid and strong base: solution of CH3COONa
  • Third phase: salt coming out from strong acid and strong base: solution of NaCl
  • Fourth phase: salt coming out from weak acid and weak base: solution of CH3COONH4
