Determination of the number of theoretical plates in a distillation column

The separation power of a rectification column can be determined through an appropriate binary mixture whose equilibrium composition is measured in the distillation flask and at the head of the distillation column. The number of theoretical plates can be determined numerically or graphically from the measured values.
